In 2013 the Embark Group acquired a controlling stake in Hornbuckle, one of the UK’s leading independent specialist pension providers.
Our vision was to become the partner of choice for those in need of complex retirement solutions, offering maximum investment flexibility backed by technical expertise, risk control and quality client service. Today we distribute our products and services through a wide range of intermediary distribution partners, including independent financial advisers, wealth managers, employee benefits consultants and private banks.
In September 2014 we commenced our partnership with leading global technology provider, FNZ. This relationship helps us to digitise our services and supports our operations.
Our first white-label pension launched in January 2015 for Nutmeg, the digital wealth manager. In February 2016, through acquisition, we obtained wrap platform capabilities.
In November 2017 we launched the Embark Platform - a low-cost and genuinely digital platform - to financial advisers, enabling them to deliver pension and investment services to the mass market.
In July 2016 we acquired Rowanmoor Group PLC, further expanding our self-invested personal pension (SIPP) and small self-administered scheme (SSAS) administration capabilities.
The Rowanmoor business has been a pioneer in the member-directed pension market since 1979. Today, we are proud to be the UK’s leading SSAS provider, and a leader in the bespoke SIPP market.
Rowanmoor clients are appointed a dedicated administrator and benefit from the access our operational teams have to in-house experts in our actuarial, technical, fund accounting and property teams.
The Adviser Centre added investment research and consultancy to the Embark Group’s proposition in October 2016.
The Adviser Centre is a free-to-air research and consultancy service, designed for financial advisers with the aim of residing at the heart of their centralised investment proposition.
Services offered by The Adviser Centre span impartial fund research, IA Sector Overviews, regular commentaries and more. At the heart of our proposition is a qualitative assessment of the quality, utility and value for money offered by actively managed funds available in the UK.
We acquired EBS Pensions Limited in May 2017 to further expand our Group SIPP and SSAS offering.
EBS Pensions was one of the first companies to offer SSAS in the UK. Their oldest SSAS, which is still in existence today, was established in June 1976 and in March 2000 EBS Pensions began offering SIPPs.
Today, the business has a reputation for being a firm that helps to solve clients’ problems rather than establishing a pre-determined path for all pension schemes.
Launched in January 2018, Vested is a collaboration between the Embark Group and Mazars LLP, the UK practice of the leading international professional services firm Mazars.
Vested brings together capabilities across the digital delivery of workplace flexible benefits, workplace savings solutions, financial wellbeing education and support.
The approach adopted by Vested is digital, proactive and flexible; primarily focused on the medium to large SME market (100 to 750 employees).
Liberty SIPP joined the Embark Group via EBS Pensions in October 2018, then rebranded to Embark Pensions in January 2019.
The Embark Pensions approach to SIPPs is to provide an accessible, easy to understand and cost effective product, offering customers the greatest possible flexibility when managing their retirement funds.
Our brand is built with a clear vision of making the process for applying and managing a SIPP straightforward. Today, Embark Pensions ensure clients don't encounter the frustration of small print, hidden charges, impersonal service and literature written in confusing “pension speak”.
