How will you make an impact as a Senior Due Diligence Analyst

You will work closely with the front and back office functions to assess, monitor and control all investment transactions (excluding physical property) required to support our SIPP and SSAS schemes.

You will manage a small team of analysts who perform due diligence reviews of new investments, specifically non-standard investments, and their counterparties and ongoing periodic reviews to investment held within the Group, applying enhanced due diligence and monitoring where necessary.

You will oversee the conduct of the team to ensure that due diligence and reviews are carried out in accordance with the procedures and in line with FCA, HMRC and company policies and that risks to members, scheme, and company has been effectively assessed within agreed tolerances.       

You will ensure that the work of the team is processed in accordance with both Group policy and in line with SLAs and take ownership of managing your team in regard to productivity, adherence to company policies and standards and performance management.  You will have responsibility for 4-eyes checking the work produced by the Analysts and start training them in the skills required for them to 4-eyes check each others work.

You will take responsibility for mentoring and monitoring the Analysts, ensuring workload is efficiently managed and that all processes reflect developments in the industry. You will also work closely with the Head of Investment Monitoring & Control regarding the business's risk and control assessments, helping to assess both the quality and frequency of the review of instruments and counterparties.

You will also be required, when necessary, to take on conducting the initial due diligence on new investments to ensure that they are permissible within the scheme according to HMRC, FCA and internal company policies and that the risks to the member, scheme and company has been affectively assessed and within agreed tolerances when the work.

What your day will look like as a Senior Due Diligence Analyst

  • Perform on a timely basis due diligence reviews of new counterparties and investments applying additional enhanced due diligence where applicable.
  • Work closely with clients, advisers and providers to obtain the information required to complete the DD process.
  • Review of investment/fund manager and fund documentation (including constitutional documents and key agreements), fund structure, governance arrangements, counterparty risk, accounting and valuation processes, compliance, risk oversight, cash controls and business continuity planning to evaluate the overall quality of fund systems, controls, infrastructure and personnel in order to identify issues relevant to the overall investment decision.
  • Prepare complete and accurate documentation for timely submission to the Investment Group Committee, and where required present findings alongside a recommendation, to ensure that the referral process is both efficient and objective.
  • Liaising with other teams and committees such as Risk, Compliance and Legal in order to identify, mitigate and resolve potential investment issues.
  • Monitoring all investment transaction activities (purchase and sales), across a wide range of asset types and investment counterparties, identifying risks and recommending controls to put in place.
  • Undertake sanction and PEP screening on new and existing counterparties, update the PEP register and complete PEP forms and ensure all PEP relations are approved by the MLRO and/or Senior Management.
  • Mentor and monitor the Analysts, ensuring the teamwork load is efficiently managed, the Analysts are up to date with developments within the industry and adherence to the different company policies where relevant.
  • Help with ongoing development and maintenance of the 360 DD database for collating investment information across the Embark Group.  Ensure all information is held correctly and is up to date at all times.
  • Provide assistance to the Head of Investment Monitoring & Control in ensuring accurate documentation, recommendations and information is submitted in a timely fashion to each company Investment Control Group (ICG) to enable them to make decisions based on Group risk and in line with their internal Permitted Investment Policy. 

Who you are and the experience we’re looking for

  • Significant experience in a complex regulated environment such as a wealth manager form, SIPP/SSAS provider, private bank or asset manager
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the financial market.
  • Have an understanding and working knowledge of both investment and transaction processing and CASS rules and regulatory requirements.
  • Significant comparable investment monitoring experience in a complex regulated environment (asset manager, private bank/wealth manager, pension platform, broker, and/or platform provider). 
  • Significant experience in investment due diligence and monitoring roles
  • High level of knowledge and understanding of pension governance; HMRC, DWP, TPR and FCA  
  • High level of understanding of member-directed pension schemes and their legal structures
  • High level of understanding of a wide range of complex investment including collectives, equities, derivatives, CFDs, FX, UCIS, UCITS, plus an understanding of foreign markets and financial instruments
  • Be able to analyse complex investment instruments and documentation
  • Ability to assess and analyse risk
