Head of Risk & Resilience - 12 to 15 months FTC

What your day may look like
In your role of Head of Operational Risk & Resilience, you will be enhancing the Risk Management and Resilience Framework for the Embark Platform in line with FCA requirements.
You will help the business maintain effective policies and procedures that underpin the risk and compliance framework across the Group, promoting effective systems and controls to ensure compliance with the FCA Handbook and other applicable legal requirements such as HMRC requirements for registered pension schemes and GDPR.
In your role, you will support the work of the broader 2LOD Risk team, drive Risk and Compliance awareness amongst Embark platform employees and deliver the risk assurance plan.
How will you make an impact
- Work collaboratively and effectively with the broader Risk & Compliance Team
- Implement risk framework updates and communicate updates of the framework to the business
- Provide training to staff on compliance through the supply of clear documentation, answering questions and providing roll-out assistance
- Collate, reconcile and challenge management information (MI) from various sources
- Draft, prepare, and submit risk reports for Senior Management, Committees and Boards
- RCSA responsibilities
- Provide independent challenge to business management on their assessment of risks, design of controls and mitigating actions, ensuring solutions to business issues are created and implemented
- Design the testing approach and oversee the testing and assurance of processes and controls, as part of the Risk Assurance Plan, Risk & Control Self Assessment (RCSA) and Event Management processes
- Identify control weaknesses and oversight implementation of procedures to improve risk management and operational controls across the business
- Agree actions to enhance the control framework with the business and overseeing the implementation of the actions
- Risk Event Oversight
- Design & implement risk event processes, procedures and guidance
- Resilience
- Develop the resilience framework to further embed and enhance in line with best practice
- Maintain and ensure regular updates to, and testing of, the business continuity plan
What it takes to be successful in role
- Professional qualification in Risk, Compliance or Regulation
- Practical experience in supporting and challenging first line teams in the management of compliance risks within a regulated environment
- The ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines under pressure while maintaining accuracy and quality
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in the financial services industry, preferably in a control capacity (Internal Audit, Risk or Compliance)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to gain confidence of senior management and challenge the status quo, as appropriate
- Superior problem solving and analytical skills
- People management skills

- Knowledge of platform businesses desirable
- Knowledge of the FCA’s new regulations in relation to operational resilience (SYSC) desirable
