Analyst, Investment Technical & Due Diligence - based in Salisbury or London

This role is within The Adviser Centre, part of the Embark Group. 


What you’ll do

As an Analyst in the Investment Technical and Due Diligence team you will work closely with the front and back office functions to assess, monitor and control all Non-Standard Investment transactions (excluding UK commercial property) required to support the groups propositions.  The role requires a good understanding of pension tax legislation, specifically SIPP and SSAS, and ideally experience of producing due diligence reports on FCA defined non-standard investments.

The primary responsibility will be to conduct initial due diligence on behalf of SIPP and SSAS providers within the Embark Group on all new Non Standard Investments to ensure that they are permissible within the scheme according to HMRC, FCA and internal company policies and that the risks to the member, scheme and Group have been effectively assessed and are within agreed tolerances.

The secondary responsibility is to assist in implementing ongoing risk based and periodic monitoring of investments and counterparties to support a proactive approach to risk management & control.


Key Accountabilities

  • Perform on a timely basis due diligence reviews of new counterparties and investments applying additional enhanced due diligence where applicable.
  • Work closely with clients, advisers and providers to obtain the information required to complete the DD process.
  • Review of investment/fund manager and fund documentation (including constitutional documents and key agreements), fund structure, governance arrangements, counterparty risk, accounting and valuation processes, compliance, risk oversight, cash controls and business continuity planning to evaluate the overall quality of fund systems, controls, infrastructure and personnel in order to identify issues relevant to the overall investment decision.
  • Prepare complete and accurate documentation for timely submission to the Investment Group Committee, and where required present findings alongside a recommendation, to ensure that the referral process is both efficient and objective.
  • Liaising with the other Group companies and their committees such as Risk, Compliance and Legal in order to identify, mitigate and resolve potential investment issues.
  • Monitoring all investment transaction activities (purchase and sales), across a wide range of asset types and investment counterparties, identifying risks and recommending controls to put in place.
  • Undertake sanction and PEP screening on new and existing counterparties, update the PEP register and complete PEP forms and ensure all PEP relations are approved by the MLRO and/or Senior Management.
  • Apply your knowledge of permissible investments and understanding of asset types and instrument type in order to operate initial Due Diligence screening and assessment within SLAs.
  • Researching and compiling information and documentation on investments to support an efficient and effective Due Diligence process.
  • Assisting in supporting the accurate and timely submission of documentation to the investment committee.
  • Work closely with clients, advisers and providers to obtain the information required to complete the DD process.
  • Assist in producing suitability assessment of any custodian or counterparty related to an investment.
  • Researching and compiling information and documentation on counterparties.
  • Record account status and approval information in the appropriate databases/spreadsheets.
  • Assist in establishing risk-based monitoring of securities and investments and perform periodic monitoring assessments at an asset and instrument level in line with the initial Due Diligence framework.
  • Carry out regular research and information gathering in assigned investment field to ascertain and build up data on potential investments and activities.
  • Understand the custodian policy and custody monitoring policy of the company and review activities against the approved custodian register.
  • Ensure CDD information held on existing counterparties is reviewed regularly so that it remains up to date and accurate, identifying shortfalls and obtaining missing documentation.


Who you are and the experience we’re looking for

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of the financial market, specifically around SIPP and SSAS and the Non-Standard Investment market.
  • Have an understanding and working knowledge of both investment and transaction processing and CASS rules and regulatory requirements. 
  • Strong knowledge of SIPP and SSAS.
  • A relevant professional QCF Level 4 qualifications such a CII Diploma, Investment Management Certificate (IMC) or equivalent is desirable. 
  • A relevant professional QCF Level 6 qualifications such a CII Advanced Diploma or equivalent is desirable.
  • Good knowledge of HMRC Pension Tax Manual in respect of pension investments necessary.
  • Experience of working within a SIPP/SSAS environment essential.
