Team Leader and Senior Developer

This role is within Embark Corporate Services Limited, part of the Embark Group.


What you’ll do

As a Team Leader and Senior Developer, you will be responsible for managing the delivery of a roadmap of innovative technology solutions and services, that support the continual development of leading financial product and service offerings to our clients.

Working with the Projects & Change team, the role is responsible for managing a team of Development Engineers who provide systems development capability to the business, utilising new and existing technologies. Using a range of tools, you will be key to the creation and maintenance of a wide range of supportive applications ranging from web-based client service tools, complex background services, data interfaces, data warehouses, MI reporting to completely adhoc business tool development.


Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and motivate a team of Development Engineers, performing line management responsibilities and supporting their development and progression
  • Provide consultant architecture support, and lead technical solution designing for large scale and complex development projects, through-out the development lifecycle
  • Support the strategic planning and management of the Development Change Catalogue and team resources- ensuring alignment with the overall Change Catalogue, and Embark’s wider strategic roadmap
  • Oversee the Development Team Service Desk, ensuring SLAs are met and that the team resource capacity is managed effectively
  • Lead the delivery of robust custom applications to the business, overseeing the work of Development Engineers
  • Management of large scale and complex development projects through-out the development lifecycle
  • Communicate with senior stakeholders, influencing and managing expectations effectively to ensure successful requirement capture, development, testing and hand-over of development work
  • Debug and peer-review of code
  • Lead the design and development of SQL databases associated with development projects, overseeing the work of Development Engineers
  • Drive quality related initiatives and provide change impact assessments to help evaluate and improve system performance
  • Work in a time-boxed Agile / Scrum methodology
  • Provide frequent updates on the progress of the Development Change Catalogue and Service Desk items – including frequent risk management
  • Keeping up-to-date on new and latest technologies, methodologies and tools.


Who you are and the experience we’re looking for

  • Excellent self-motivated hands on team leader with strong people management skills   
  • At least seven years’ experience in .Net development (C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server)
  • A solid understanding of database architecture with proven experience of Microsoft SQL
  • Understanding and use of common web based technologies such as ASP.NET, MVC, Javascript & Javascript frameworks, AJAX, jQuery, CSS, XML
  • SSIS (highly desirable), SSRS (highly desirable)
  • RESTful/WCF web services (desirable)
  • SoapUI / ReadyAPI Automated API Testing (desirable)
  • Exposure to Azure Technologies (desirable)
  • Qlik / BI Technologies (desirable)
  • Knowledge of investment and pension products, including regulatory framework (desirable)
  • Innovative thinker with an appetite for new technology
  • Experience of product lifecycle including systems analysis, development of system design documentation and test and release.
